Koenig is a German tuning house founded by Willie Koenig, a skilled race car driver in his own right. He started the company with the goal of making Ferrari a “proper sportscar” in 1977 when he bought a 365 GT4BB dissatisfied with its performance.
This particular 1980 512 BB carries just 57,629 kilometers (35,809 miles) from the new one and received a recent service in April 2022 by Ferrari expert Dario Sauer, which includes a simple timing tune-up as well as a new timing belt and a shifter combination. Starting life as a regular German market Ferrari 512 BB, it was converted to Koenig Special Specification in 1983 by its second owner. It included a complete flamboyant body kit with rear wings, gold mesh rim and extended front splitter.
A 4.9-liter Flat-12 sits in the back of the driver, some engines produce somewhere around 450 horsepower for tuning, and power is sent to the rear wheels by a twin-disc five-speed manual transaxel.
The 512 BB Collecting Car was up for auction, where it sold for 166,666 ($ 175,322). The sale also included a number of original documents, including information about the Koenig kit.
