BMW is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its M division with a series of special events and tributes. Such a tribute will only be sold to US and Canadian customers, the 2023 BMW M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M – this is the full name of the car.
Limited to just 500 examples, the special edition is based on the xDrive of the 2023 BMW M3 competition and its marquee feature is the special paint color where it will be offered. Celebrating the history of the brand, the colors were taken from all previous generations of M3.
The model will be offered at Sinnabar Red, which honors the E30 M3; Techno Violet, to stimulate E36 M3; In Deep Interlagos Blue, borrowed from the E46 M3; In the Fire Orange III which appeared in the limited edition Lime Rock Park version of the E92 M3; And, finally, in Limerick Gray, as a reference to the F80 M3 CS. Two colors, Techno Violet and Interlagos Blue, have been revived specifically for this special edition model, BMW said.

Outside of the paint color selection, the M3 version comes with 50 Jahre BMW M Style 826M imitation wheels finished with a smooth matte orbit gray finish that is not available on the standard M3. They fit around the standard brakes available with red, blue or black calipers, or with M-Carbon ceramic brakes that come with gold calipers.
Also, the model is trimmed with carbon fiber front splitter, signature M quad tailpipe carbon fiber and titanium, while the trunk lead spoiler is made of carbon fiber to match the carbon fiber roof.
In agreement with its ancestors, the special edition features the classic BMW M motorsport logo on the hood, trunk and wheel center caps instead of the usual BMW Roundle. The logo is made up of dazzling semicircles in blue, navy and red, reminiscent of the BMW M GmbH logo that was first used in race cars in 1973.
Upon entering, the owners will be greeted by the letter “Edition 50 Jahre BMW M” on the door seals, which is again repeated on an aluminum plate on the cover of the cupholder. That plaque also has a production number, indicating that it is being made 1/500 ৷
Thanks to the standard M Sport seats the drivers will be held firmly during hard cornering, although M carbon bucket seats are also available and they are equipped with black extended merino leather, a unique option for this model. No matter which seat you choose, the sewing will also be exclusive for this model featuring three colors with M logo.
The model will receive BMW’s new curved display screen (a standard feature on all 2023 M3s) as well as the eighth generation of the BMW iDrive. The setup combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster on the back of the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen, which appears to be made up of a single piece that extends across the dashboard. The new feature has previously been previewed for Europe but is the first confirmation that it will hit the US market this year.
The model is only available in one configuration, including the Executive and Parking Assistance package, Icon Adaptive LED Laserlight, Carbon-Fiber Interior Trim, Wireless Device Charging and M Shadowline Headlight.
Production of the 2023 BMW M3 Version 50 Jahre BMW M begins in July, 2022 and starts at 96,695 ($ 95,700 plus $ 995 destination fee).
