Buick’s GL8 is going to be a luxury home theater on Century Wheels

Buick Terraza is fortunately a distant memory, but Americans may get a hint of jealousy after seeing their eyes towards the upcoming GL8 Century.

Launched in China next month, the GL8 Century is billed as a flagship van that will usher in “a new era of luxury MPV transport”.

This feature is hard to argue with because it seems to be one of the fancy vans ever made. The cabin looks like a house away from home because it has an impressive entertainment system with a huge screen attached by Bose speakers.

Elsewhere, we see ambient light, metallic accents, and perforated leather seats separated by a “foldable smart screen” that probably controls the entertainment system. The seats also seem to be powered and equipped with cup holders that fit together in their sofa-like armrests.

The exterior styling continues as the GL8 Century hints at last year’s GL8 flagship concept. As a result, it boasts a modern version of Buick’s design language that draws “inspiration from oriental aesthetics and digital technology.”

Although there’s not much to see, the van has a Cadillac-esque lighting unit and a huge grill. They are joined by a two-tone paint job, the letter “BUICK” and a small vacation or reception under the hood.

We’ll learn more next month, but the model has a 123.2-inch (3,130mm) wheelbase and is 1.7 inches (42mm) longer than the GL8 ES. The GL8 Centurio is 4 inches (102 mm) wide and these extended dimensions give the van a “spacious interior” that will appeal to the “new generation of social and business elite”.
