Cadillac’s entry-level GT4 SUV hits patent office before launching in China

The patent office hit again and this time they released Cadillac’s entry-level crossover.

Known as the GT4 in China, the model will slot under the XT4 and compete with the BMW X2 as well as the Mercedes GLA.

As you can see in these photos posted by a Weibo user, the model follows in the footsteps of CT4 and CT5 because it has a familiar grille surrounded by thin headlights. Further down, there is an angular eclipse, and what we assume is an L-shaped light moving during the day.

Elsewhere, there’s a bullish hood and plastic body cladding. We can also see the streamlined bodywork and a dynamic greenhouse that flows on a chrome GT4 badge in the rear column. While the next accent is reminiscent of the one used on the Toyota Corolla Cross, the rear end is undoubtedly Cadillac because we can see the brand’s trademark taillights. They are joined by a rear spoiler and a flowing chrome bar

The GT4 will have at least two different versions and they echo the luxury and sport trims available across the state. The latter is most interesting because it has a black mesh grill, a four-tailpipe drainage system and various wheels.

CarNewsChina reports that the model will be unveiled in the third quarter and will be produced by SAIC-GM. They say the crossover will mount on the E2XX platform, which also underpins the XT4.

We’ll probably learn more in the coming months, but the GT4 is rumored to be offered with two different powertrains. The first will have a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive, the other will have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and all-wheel drive.
