Can Toyota offer a GR sedan, could it be a GR Camry?

Toyota’s GR lineup includes the GR Supra, GR86, GR Corolla, and GR Yaris Overseas. However, the company will not do as a sedan can be on the horizon.

Speaking to MotorTrend, Bob Carter, executive vice president of sales for Toyota Motor North America, said “stay tuned” when asked about the possibility of a GR sedan. Although there are rumors about a GR Corolla sedan, the publication thinks a GR camry is a possibility.

We want to agree because Toyota already offers a Camry TRD and in the end it would be understandable to replace it with a GR variant. While it remains to be seen, the Camry TRD was launched in 2018 as the 2020 model.

Designed as the most aggressive camry, the sedan has an over-the-top body kit with front splitter, aerodynamic side skirt, rear diffuser and a prominent spoiler. Other highlights include a cat-back exhaust, thick underbody braces and beefer front brakes. These upgrades are accompanied by a sport-tuned suspension featuring specially tuned shock and unique coil springs, which reduce the ride height by 0.6 inches (15 mm).

These are nice upgrades, but the 3.5-liter V6 engine is shared with mainstream variants. As a result, its output remains unchanged at 301 hp (224 kW / 305 PS) and 267 lb-ft (361 Nm) of torque. However, considering the Hyundai Sonata N-Line has 290 hp (216 kW / 294 PS) and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque, this is not a bad thing at all.

Only time will tell if a GR sedan has been added to the lineup, but a GR crossover seems like a strong possibility that the company has already introduced the bZ4X GR Sport concept. However, Carter suggested that nothing was imminent because he said the company would not have an electrified GR model in five months, but “probably” in five years.
