Dacia, the only automaker offering its full range of bi-fuel variants, has temporarily stopped offering LPG-burning models from the UK market due to ongoing problems in the liquefied petroleum gas supply chain.
The company has stopped taking orders for Sandero and Duster bi-fuels, the only new models compatible with LPG in the UK, and has not given a timeline for when they will be available again.

A spokesman for Desia told Autocar: “The LPG supply chain is currently facing a problem that is creating a deficit in the industry. Dacia will temporarily suspend orders for a version equipped with a specific model ECO-G engine. “
As reported by the publication, there is a massive shortage of LPG in the UK due to the epidemic caused by the war in Ukraine and the shortage of drivers due to over supply problems. The number of fuel stations supplying LPG across the UK has plummeted from about 1,400 to just 368 in the last few years. At the same time, LPG prices have risen, reducing the cost advantage over other fuels.
In Europe, Dacia is still offering bi-fuel variants of the Sandero, Sandero Stepway, Jagar and Duster as alternatives to the cheapest for petrol and diesel-powered lineups. All bi-fuel models are fitted with a turbocharged 1.0 TCe three-cylinder engine capable of running on both petrol and LPG, the same motors as the Renault Cleo and Capture. When running on LPG, the engine produces 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) and 170 Nm (125.4 lb-ft) of torque, which is slightly higher than running on petrol. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
Using LPG significantly reduces fuel consumption compared to petrol or diesel, which is associated with slightly lower CO2 emissions. Unlike the VW Group’s CNG (compressed natural gas) model where there is a very small tank of gasoline for emergencies, the bi-fuel models retain their regular gas tanks in addition to the extra LPG tanks placed under the boot. Thus, they both have a combined range of 620 miles (998 km) with fuel.
