The appeal of the Alfa Romeo Spider Duet cannot be denied, but Garage Italia has tried to modernize it with its latest restoration. It took the classic Roadstar and added a hybrid powertrain to prepare for its star turn at Milan Design Week.
Starting with a Series 4 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Dueto powered by a 2,000cc fuel-injected motor, the company has completed a “non-conservative recovery” of the car. Working with its partners, it has thoughtfully tried to improve every aspect of it.
Underneath the hood, the engine is equipped with an exclusive kinetic recovery system, or as it is known in Formula 1, KERS. Supplied by neutrons, it restores energy when the car is braked, which is then stored in a lithium battery. When you need to accelerate, that energy is used to boost the engine. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual driving right (rear) wheel. Garage Italia did not provide any details about the specification, but the regular 2.0-liter four-pot produces 124hp per day.

Elsewhere, Garage Italy has tried to refine the excellent work of Pininfarina by reabsorbing and contouring all the sheet metal. Made lighter and stronger with composite, modified parts of the body, such as the front bumper. The bodywork was then painted in a special color called GICMiramare which was created in collaboration with RM.
Inside, the soft furu luxury leather was supplied by Poltrona Frau and used in the seats and paneling. D-Tales, meanwhile, has added a wooden bulkhead and rear bench to the car for a nautical touch. Using an innovative veneering method, the texture of the wood grain is allowed to come even while protected from the elements.
A custom sound system has also been installed. Designed specifically for this project by Sonus Faber, the 700W, 10-channel system ensures crisp, natural sound using natural ingredients such as silk, cellulose pulp and organic fibers.
Designed in honor of the city of Milan, the Alfa Romeo Spider Dueto Hybrid was created for Milan Design Week and was on display from June 9-12.
