Mercedes-AMG GT E Performance PHV Speed ​​Testing with Stylus

Mercedes-AMG has already demonstrated the potential for a PHEV powertrain in the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 E performance, and is set to do the same in the upcoming SL and the new AMG-GT. The latter made its spy debut in electrified form in Nবারrburging.

The second generation 53 and 63 variants of the AMG GT have been spied on, but this is the first time we’ve seen a plug-in hybrid model. Unlike previous camouflage prototypes, PHEV wears special steel wheels, fitted with test equipment. While it would be nice to see these types of obsolete wheel designs in sports cars, they were clearly designed to assist in development so don’t expect to see them in production.

The charging port to the right of the rear bumper – a typical placement for a Mercedes – shows that this AMG GT is ready for the plug. Mercedes has talked tightly about the new generation of AMG GT but we hope it will share e-performance plug-in hybrid powertrain with SL Roadstar.

The most powerful AMG to date – the four-door GT 63 E performance – is fitted with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and a rear-mounted electric motor, producing a combined 831 hp (620 kW / 843 PS) and 1,400 Nm. 1,023 lb-ft) torque. In the case of the SL, it is rumored that Mercedes-AMG will offer two PHEV variants, a SL63e with a 700 hp (522 kW / 710 PS) and a SL63 E performance with a full 831 hp (620 kW / 843 PS). This strategy may be reflected by the Sportier AMG GT, although nothing is yet official.

The Mercedes-AMG GT is expected to make its debut in late 2022, when the plug-in hybrid variant – which will probably be the most powerful – could follow in 2023. The sportscar will compete with the Porsche 911, which is also getting a hybrid version in the upcoming Facelift.
