The Peugeot 3008 is nailed to the head, making it one of the most popular models in the highly competitive compact SUV segment. Despite a second-generation update with a facelift in 2020, the French automaker is already working on a completely new model. As such, we’ve gathered all the information available for third-generation 3008 and presented it to you, along with a few hypothetical rendering made by our partners.
The current 3008 relaunched in 2016, its SUV bodystyle represents a significant evolution compared to its predecessor in the minivan-style. Including Peugeot’s latest design identity on the front end, the handsome body has become even more attractive in 2020 with a massive facelift. However, the facelift 3008 did not change much and did not feature the new symbol, which debuted in 308. Peugeot plans to replace it with a new generation that will arrive in early 2023 and a completely redesigned body and a heavily featured reworked platform.
Sexy and more aggressive styling
As illustrated in the rendering, the new 3008 will probably feature triple vertical LEDs on the front bumper, which will further emphasize Peugeot’s signature Lion Fangs. The wrong bumper intakes of the current 3008 can be replaced by a darker colored trim element, for a more integrated look with the grille. The latter will inherit the new logo as well as the new look already found in the 308 which will gradually find its way into the entire Peugeot lineup.

The profile is expected to be more sculptural than ever, with soft curves and thin plastic cladding for a classy look. The roof line will probably become more dynamic, separating the 3008 from its boxer 5008 siblings. On the back, we expect thinner and more aggressive LED taillights with a heavier dose of decorative chrome elements, especially on sporty GT-line trims on the bumper. The new wheel design and a fresh color palette can make the look even more spicy, while the du-tone treatment with the black roof and pillars will probably be passed on to the new generation.
Following the trend in the SUV world, the new model is expected to increase in footprint, widening the gap from the small 2008, measuring 4,300 mm (169.3 inches) longer than the current 3008’s 4,447 mm (175.1 inches). This will result in improved proportions and increased room for passengers and their luggage, adding more practicality to the mix.
Inside the cabin, the current model’s i-cockpit dashboard may still look quite modern for the 2022 standard, but the new 3008 will take things even further into the future. A larger infotainment touchscreen, a newly created 3D instrument cluster, aircraft-style switches and premium grade content around the cabin will bridge the gap between more expensive competitors such as the current 3008 and the new BMW X1. Additionally, the equipment will be upgraded with more sophisticated ADAS from the Stalantis Parts Bin.
Stalantis underpinnings with a focus on electrification
Peugeot aims to electrify its entire range by 2025 before moving to EV only in Europe by 2030. This means there is still time for another ICE-powered generation of the 3008, although there must be a combination of a heavily electrified powertrain and a fully electric one. To compete in the e-3008 variant competition.
In this context, there are two scenarios for the new 3008; One is to use an updated version of the EMP2 architecture and the other is to move to a more modern STLA Medium platform designed for compact and medium sized models. Compatible with the EMP2 EV underpinning, the rumored Peugeot e-308 certified and officially confirmed Opel Astra-e compact hatchbacks will debut in 2023. However, STLA will bring advanced technological capabilities to the electrical front in terms of medium power output and range.

Aside from the EV, the new 3008 will be offered with an exclusively electrified petrol powertrain, as diesel options will be excluded from the range. The entry-level 3008 will feature an updated turbocharged 1.2-liter Puretech three-cylinder engine and a more efficient 48-volt light-hybrid system. Plug-in hybrid options available with single (FWD) or dual (AWD) electric motors will offer an extended EV range for new batteries and other upgrades. The latter will probably be shared with the upcoming Peugeot 408 which has been given speed testing with a low-slang crossover bodystyle.
French media suggest that the first disguised prototypes of the third-generation Peugeot 3008 will make their spy debut before the end of 2022. It will give us more information about the upcoming SUV that is expected to debut sometime in 2023
