If you want the most driver-focused variant of the 2-Series, you’ll be looking at the M2. However, if you want a 2-Series that you can use to race in the lights, choose the new M240i xDrive.
To find out if the new M240i xDrive or an M2 is the best car to compete in red-light drag racing, YouTuber Sam CarLegion has put the pair together for multiple tests. The match between the two is quite good on paper and pen.
The power of the M240i xDrive is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six pumping 382 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. Importantly, this engine is exclusively equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an xDrive all-wheel drive system. The car has a carb weight of 3,671 pounds (1,690 kg).

The other corner has the M2 Competition that uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six but is good for 405 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm). The tested example was fitted with an available dual-clutch transmission and weighed about 3,600 pounds (1,632 kg). Although it has the advantage of strength and weight, it is rear-wheel drive, making it more difficult to get off the line.
During the first race, the driver of the M240i xDrive accelerates the distance and gets a much higher launch, leaving the M2 dead. The second race was much more competitive because the guy drove the M2 Competition and got off the line as fast as the M240i and started moving away as the speed increased.
Then a pair of rotating races between the two was held. In the first race, the transmissions are left in their automatic mode and the gearbox of the M2 competition is able to descend faster, allowing for an easy win.
