Nissan has announced that the Z will be the official safety car in the Super GT Race Series in Japan for the 2022 season.
The specially designed car is based on a production-spec Nissan Z but has several updated features to suit its new role. It gets two additional pairs of LED lights on the front grille and rear bumper in addition to the traditional ceiling-mounted light bar. The body is painted yellow, with contrasting black accents (ceiling, wheels, bumper inserts, and more).

Inside the cabin, the safety car gets a new pair of carbon-fiber bucket seats with racing seatbelts that will provide better support to the driver and front passenger when going off track.
The automaker did not mention any mechanical upgrades, so we speculate that the car will be fitted with a stock twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that produces 400 hp (298 kW / 405 PS).
The responsibilities of a safety vehicle include pre-race inspection of the track to ensure that everything is ready for the race, and of course to lead the race in the event of an accident. For this reason, sportscars are a viable option, giving racers enough performance to lead a packet, although the latter will always be significantly faster than road-legal vehicles.
The Nissan Z Safety car will make its first public appearance in the first round of the 2022 Super GT season on May 29 at the Suzuka Circuit. In addition to donating safety cars, Nissan is competing with the Nissan Z GT500 in the Super GT. Racecar which replaced the old GT-R GT500 after 13 years of service
